Howdy,

I picked up a Noctua u12ps2 (2 fans, one pushes & other pulls) and put it on my 2.67 i5. I have the msi p55-gd65 with "oc genie", which takes me to 3340.6 (using 17x196.5). Memory is patriot viper 3x2g

Here's CPU-z ID info:

I'm cranking prime95, and core temp tells me I'm hitting about 57c max after 4 passes

How far would you reckon I could go with this set-up?

temps look perfectly fine.. but i recommend doing the overclocking yourself in the bios.. do not rely on that automatic overclocking crap or windows based software to overclock.. ya have plenty of room left temp wise and voltage.. so manually overclock and see how far you can push it.. just dont exceed 1.5v

Thanks sirmonkey. I'll start off duplicating this result in the bios..

What's a good target temp for this chip ?

It's been a while since I did an oc, ~4 years with an old AMD barton. I'm testing by running prime95 for about an hour and checking the max temp I hit.

I should be able to turn up the memory a fair amount too I think, this is the part info:\

PATRIOT VIPER 6GB (3X2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHZ TRIPLE CHANNEL KIT

cpu-z shows me this:
RAM Speed : 589.5 MHz (2:6) @ 8-8-8-24

Does that mean the speed in MHz should go up to 12800, or is there a multiplier in play?

post you voltage etc results plz! im thinking about going up to 4 GHz with mine but im new to the overclocking world.

right now im on stock voltages
base clock = 166
core multiplier= x21 (intel turbo boost)
mem multiplier= x8 (for 1333 gskill ram, 9-9-9-24-2T)
core GHz = 3.485

Corsair h50
idle 33
load:
LinX (59C)
Prime95 (55C)

Mine's 1.4v, I think the cpu-z link shows that too. I'll try some more today and see where I can take it :)

That's better..

4010 ghz using 20x200.5 & 1.43v. idle 28c load 64c after about 30 mins of prime95 and case closed up
