Hey guys. I have been running my E6300 with watercooling at 7x490 for 3.43ghz for quite some time now, never a single issue, lockup, orthos stable, etc... This was with two 1gig sticks of the Patriot DDR2-800 overclocked to 990mhz. I recently added 2 more gigs and once I did this, the system became unstable. All memory is matched, and I had to bump up the voltage to 2.3v just to get the system to boot. The memory was at 2.1v prior to the upgrade. I also noticed that the Memory gets a bit warmer then when I had just two sticks. I do have an intake 120mm blowing right on them, so Im not worried about the heat, but Im wondering why the addidtion of 2 more sticks caused such a change in stability. I am now only able to get 3.15ghz overclock apposed to my prior 3.43.

Can anyone give me some insight? Here are the settings on my P965-DS3 revision v3.3 -- My signature profile is up to date, so any refferences to specs, look in my sig. Also, Ive done much research on the Patriot and it appears to be a very stable overclocker. As stated, the 2 gigs overclocked just fine, and nearly 200mhz over.

CPU: 1.4v
Memory: 2.3v
All other voltages stock

Ideas?!?! Im near removing the 2 sticks and returning them!

Just an idea. Try switching the old ram out for the new ram and see if you can get the same overclocking. Maybe the new ram isn't up to the overclocking.

Forgot to mention that when I got the ram, I took out the original ram, and since they are all the same, I got mixed up on which was the new, and which was the old :(

BUT, I did try all the combos that I could think of with two sticks and it still overclocks fine... So I dont believe I got a bad stick.

Running 4 sticks of memory compared to 2 sticks puts more stress on the memory controller.

Your previous setting was a great overclock but running with a FSB of 490 MHz is running your memory controller near its limit. You can try bumping the northbridge voltage up a notch but it's likely you won't be able to equal your previous overclock when running 4 sticks even if all 4 sticks are identical. :(

You could try 5-6-6-18.

That news is very saddening. I will look at selling them then and getting 4gigs with 2gig sticks. I dont see the added benifit of running the 4 gigs, even in Vista. I have seen no improvement and dont see it being worth the risk of pushing the northbridge too hard. Thanks for the input!
