Hey. I have an IC7G-Max 2, and a 3.0E Prescott (Socket 478) and have been successfully overclocking, right now im at 235x15 (3.526 GHz) 24H prime stable. (1:1 Ratio, Memorys running at 235MHz) Temps are 39C idle (Not bad for socal weather)

Heres my dillemna:

I want to push the CPU further. Im afraid i can only accomplish that by using ratios, but the only ratios i have are 5:4 and 3:2. If i use a 5:4 ratio, the memory speed goes way down (Sub 200) for the overclock that i want to accomplish.

Does that matter? Is memory speed important for what im trying to accomplish? I want to have faster all around system speed, but im afraid that slowing down the memory will cripple my system, not make it faster.

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks!

usually from what i've read 1:1 is always better, but never tried anything but 1:1 fsb:dram.

Offtopic, but what HSF you using, those are some impressive temps you got, my 3.0E @ 3.3ghz idles at 56c with a Tt Tower112 with dual 92mm fans on it.

if you boost the cpu speed by more than 100-150mhz, it'll more than make up for the drop in memory performance

worst case scenario, you try both and run benches to see which is really better. not too hard :D

well, i bumped the thing up to 3.6 on air (1:1). It's been stable, so im pretty happy with the OC. I know that if i push it much more, ill need to start buying some WC parts ;)

I cant believe this ram is pushing near-DDR500 speeds. Its at 240 Mhz right now, and im totally psyched

I also fixed up the timings to 2.5-3-3-6. wow!

Loosen up the timings a bit and push on. The 1:1 is fine if you can set it to say 4-4-4-9 or what ever and not split it out.
Skip over water cooling and get a Phase or chiller. You got the bug all ready! :)
