Overclocking A P3

Okay, well, I know this is a noob question, but I figured why not ask it anyway. I am in the process of formatting and installing Windows 98 on an old Pentium 3 of mine. Its an old Gateway from 2001. Not sure of the mobo, but i'm using 384MB of PC100 RAM, 9200se, and a couple ghetto rigged fans . I want to know what I have to do to overclock it. Such as: flash BIOS, Windows program, jumpers, etc. Also, temp monitor/benchmark that works in Win98 would be appreciated as well.

Also - I'm having some trouble installing an OS. For some reason, its not really letting me. XP won't install (duh, i know, but wth...why not?) SuSe wouldn't install...haven't tried Fedora Core 2 yet. If I do install Linux, what would I need to do to overclock? Still just BIOS flash or something? Thanks!

you cant overclock a computer that you buy from a store. every company locks the bios.

search theres been over 1000 posts about this topic

if its just locking up while instaling windows try different ram.

Thanks for trying. I got Fedora Core 2 installed. now i need a BIOS flash program for this, a possible BIOS, and i need a temp monitor or something for linux. any ideas?

what P3 is it? I still have 2 P3s - one 500@750 and another a 600@800.. I don't feel like getting rid of them.. you'll prolly need a new mobo to oc..

OEM computers, e.g. your gateway, do not allow overclocking at all. Any bios flash to do so would be unofficial, and in most cases unexistant. Find the name of your motherboard and search google for cracked bioses. Other than that you are out of luck.
