Overclocking a Compaq

Is there any way I can overclock my Compaq? I tried CPU Cool but that change is not permanent, everytime I reboot, its back to the same Frequency.
 
but since my computer is a compaq my motherboard is made by compaq also. its not supported by that program. its a Compaq 0804h mobo.

If it was made in the last 4 years - you can't. If the options for adjusting multiplier or FSB aren't there there isn't anyway to change 'em.

Maybe if you've got an AMD chip and could hard change the mult and stuff via the bridges, but can't be done through the motherboard.
 
What you CAN do is check the clockgenerator on the motherboard, get the part number and then check out a program called CPUFSB (google should take you straight to it) to see if it supports it.

I did this with a Dell Optiplex GX100 recently.

A lot of the big manufacturers use clockgenerators that don't connect to the SMBUS, which is how a lot of the software fsb programs (like clockgen and cpufsb) read and write to the clockgenerator. This is why most of the software fsb utilities also don't work.
