Overclocking a 3200+ venice

I have a 3200+ venice E6 core and it's on air at stock voltage running at 2.45 stable. That's about as high as I can go right now but I'm getting water cooling soon and was hoping to get it higher. To do this I know I'll have to increase voltage to get higher clocks. My motherboard( epox 9npa+ ultra) says I have about 1.5v on my 3200+ even though i put it on auto and since the stock voltage is 1.4v that's wrong. When i increase by +.1v it goes to around 1.6v. But in PCwizard it still says that my voltage is 1.4 and the way i test to see if its stable is to play bf2( i know its dumb) but when my processor isnt stable the game crashes really really really fast. I had it at +.1v @2.6 and it was pretty much instantaneous crash. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong because this whole voltage thing is sorta egh and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. Thanks in advance

My specs are:
Epox 9npa+ ultra
3200+ venice stock everything cept its @ 2.45
1 gig kingston value ram 3-3-3-8
seagate hdd 250gigs
thermaltake 500w psu
7900gt @ 625/1800

use sp2004 or prime95 to check for cpu stability.

and look at my sig. let me know if you have any questions :D

Read Eclipse's guide, very good stuff!

I did just last night and I did the seemingly impossible. 2.33Ghz lol.

Thanks for the guide eclipse but I do have a few questions. First being that when I set the voltage setting to off for the cpu it just reads out 1.5v no matter the clock with auto the voltage changes with the clock right? Secondly being why does the voltage read 1.5v even when I set the voltage setting to off. I'm pretty sure off means defualt because when I changed the speed from 2.45 to 2.5 the voltage didn't change and before whn the voltage was set on auto and I changed it from 2.45 to 2.5, the voltage would change from 1.5 to 1.6.

if the voltage is being changed without you changing it, and only changing the cpu clock, then it is the board doing stuff behind your back. a very bad thing.

well, i'll return your question with another one of my own. what are you looking at to see what voltage the cpu is running at?

i would asdvise that you manually set the voltage to something.. 1.4v is stock for that cpu, and overclock. if you hit a limit where you can't get the cpu to go any faster without failing prime95 or sp2004.. then raise the voltage a notch or two :D

I'm using CPU-Z to check as well as the bios themselves and there's a way to manually set? In the bios it only gives me option to like up or lower voltage and I already figured out that setting voltage on auto chanes voltage when speed changes so thats resolved but for some reason its still telling me 1.5v when I set to "off" which means default
