people have been telling me all this stuff about how i can get my card to run like a 9800 pro, and i was just wondering how i would go about doing this because in my catalyst control center i can click overclock and then it just takes my memory speed from 500 mhz to 527...just wondering if i can get it any better and if i should get a better fan for the card.
 
if you get better cooling then you can overclock more, first rule of thumb.
 
You can download the "ATI Tool" from ATI website (I think, or just goto google.com and type in ATI Tool), and with it you can set the clock speds to WHATEVER you wish :D although be careful...
 
Ahh, 9600 overclocking, brings back good memories...

Fistly, get ATi tray tool [HTML=http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733]here[/HTML]. Run the install program, and then get ready to use it!

The overclocking pages are pretty self-explanitory. The first page allows you to overclock your GPU and RAM, and you can bring up a little 'applet' that shows a 3D graphics object that allows you to test for artifacts. The second, third and fourth pages (I think, if I remember it right) allow you to tweak the timings on your card. Now these can make quite a bit of difference to the performance of the card, allowing textures to be moved around quicker than stock. Again, check the 3D model every now and again to make sure you're not making any artifacts. Some of the timings, like the CAS latency, can seriously mess up your video, so keep it at 3 or 2.5, whichever works. Keep tweaking with the latencies, when used with an overclock they can increase the speeds markedly. If the video corruption becomes too great, just resart the computer. Finally, remember to save your profiles, including the latency settings, so they can be loaded at startup.

The other settings that you can access from the tray include quality settings (like in the ATi Control Panel), some other little driver settings that you can enable or disable, and a neat little utility that you can have show the FPS on the top of the screen.

I hope this helps a bit. It won't get it to a 9800Pro level, but it will come pretty damn close. Just use the overclocking utility wisely, make sure you have enough ventilation and cool air passing over it. Cause I don't wanna see you fry the card, nor do I take responsibility if it does </legal discalaimer> :) Have fun!

That's the EXACT same speed the Overdrive thing did on my 9600XT.

I prefer Nvidia's auto-overlocking tool MUCH better.
 
alright, thanks everyone, i will check it out tonight...any fans that you would suggest i buy to mount on my graphics card?
