When i try to overclock my Saphire 9600 Pro past Core-500 and Memory- 300, i click set and it flips out, with colors all over the screen, eventually shutting the computer down. I am totally clueless as to what the problem is here. Any help as to what to do would be appreciated.

You probably have it clocked to high. It sounds like your card can't run at that speed. Have you tried it at lower core speeds?

RAM SINKS, 9600 don't have ram sinks. get some ram sink at you local comp store for a comple of bucks.

definately too high, start backing off a few MHz at a time til it stops

so if i am going for a better fps, you guys are saying to lower the core and raise the memory?

.... no... overclock it but gradually, you must be bumping it up far to high , because when it flips out with crazy colours, then its far to high, artifacts are the first sign,

just bump it up a few mhz at a time.

thats what i have been trying to do but i guess i went like one too many on the memory once and it flipped out. What do you suggest doing if it does what it did last time? (id turn the comp on and it would freezee and shut down).

Also, what are my options as what to do in the future to have the capapbilities to make the core and memory higher than they are at?

Get better cooling. But ya, going from 400 to 500 is a big jump. I doubt it could even do 500 on water.

The core clock on a 9600 pro should be 400 and the memory 300. Try bumping the core speed up to 420 and see what happens. If that is successful bump it up another 5-10mhz. keep going until you have stability issues, then back it down to the previous setup that had been successful. You can't just start off at 500mhz and expect it to work. My 9600 can overclock to 470/250 and still be stable. I have even managed to get the core up to 488 but at 489, the computer shuts down when trying to run a game.

My 9600 Pro Built By ATI can't make 500 core.

Ramsinks don't help the 9600 either, since at stock their pushing the limits of what the RAM can do...if I add more then 20Mhz to the ram clock it goes fugnutty and the screen turns into the floor of a teletubby bukkake party [ Random splurts of color everywhere :p ]

heh yeah same here.

Thanks for all of the help guys. For now i am keeping it at 370/256

I have an Abit 9600NP in my rig stock speeds were 325MHz core 205MHz mem, using atitool i got it to overclock nicely, i also bumped up the voltage up one notch to achieve a slightly higher oc

mine either, i got up to 486 MHz, no more

i think they worked for me, although i could have not used atitool right, but ramsinks allowed me to get from an overclock of 255MHz to 333MHz

If tehre are visual problems (artifacting, etc)

its OC'd to high. If the screen goes black/shut down... definitely bring down the clockrates.

my stock (except for a small fan screwed into the HSF) 9600np out of an emachines t6000 does 485core/250mem, 490 flips the card out...... i've got it BIOS modded to 450core/250mem 24/7, does nicely in a P3..... NFS: underground in med. detail 1024x768 is glass smooth..... they seem to hit a brick wall past a certain speed and nothing can make them faster (unless your card is floppy-connector moddable)
