Ok guys and gals, ive been reading reviews for a few weeks now and have read multiple overclocking guides here on the (H) forums. I took those guides and started to work towards an overclock, but ran into a snag and wanted to get some help / ideas to improve it a bit more. Here's the current set up.

Motherboard: ASUS M3N78-VM AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8200

Proccessor: 955 black edition : Clocked at (15.5x235) 3642.5

Memory: ddr2 Corsair 4g 2x2g 1066 ram 5-5-5-15 2t currently runing at 460mhz on cpu-z

with just this info i guess i can leave out the rest, the ps is corsair 650.

Anyways I started crashing at 1250 ht frequency, bios is set on 200 I think.
Bottlenecked the fsb at 235 so i moved onto working with the multiplier.

Where im stuck is at two points, one is when the mobo says 5200 HT then how is mine maxing at 1250, and is it true that anything above 1000 doesnt mean anything, but its just a bottleneck point.

I had to pump an extra bit of voltages into the cpu but stayed below the limit of the be's limits, the ram is running at 1.8 v and it says it can hold up to 2.1

Anyways i tried to set it to 533 but it dont work, so had to bring it back to 400. I didnt up the voltage cuase its written on my bios as +45mv or some crazy number like that I dont know exactly what it means. Whats my next step on getting this ram up to speed. I feel that I just dont know how to get it up there but it will be possible i think with the ram and specs. Let me know, I can post pics tonight when I get off of work if there needed to see settings.

up the voltage one setting I use this board........... it is very limited on options do not expect a great oc I only got my 940BE to 3.7 with it and water cooling

Increase the northbridge voltage. Not exactly a hot idea with an nVidia board but it may help.

will try that tonight, will post updates on what I got. Hope it works. :) trying to get the damn ram to run at the speeds its supposed to but still dont know what the prime number im looking for for ram ratio if im running at 15.5x235

first off.. you shouldnt be messing with the HT.. its a black edition processor.. next check the multiplier on the board and make sure its set to 10x or 2000mhz.. since its a black edition processor the only 2 settings you need to touch are the cpu multiplier and cpu voltage.. nothing else.. also make sure your voltage is correct on your ram to run 1066.. it should be 2.0 or 2.1v..

When you up up the FSB, you're also upping up the RAM speed. So when you're trying to run it at 533, it is actually running faster than that, which is above the RAM's rated specs, which is probably why your system is crashing. RAM speed is actually a multiple of the FSB, just like everything else.

I wouldn't recommend messing around with the FSB. Just up the multipliers for the HT link and CPU.

Ok so now im really confused, should i drop back down to 200 fsb. Overclock the multiplier and thats it to get the clock speeds, and just run my ram up to 2.1 which is verified 533 setting?

I want to say mines running at 5 x but not sure will take some pics of bios and post after work, you guys rock btw

if its an AM2 board with am2+ support then its running at 5x and theres no way it will do 1250mhz HTT.. most am2 boards top out at 1100-1200mhz at best..

Well I thought I would give a little update.

CPU-z marks

3.740 ghz 17.x220 (had to push voltage up to 1.42 for stability)

HT Link 2200

Memory running at 586.7 mhz
3:8 fsb:dram
5.0/7/7/24/31/2t

NB 2200 mhz

Dont really know if its max, but it uped my benches on 3dMark06 from 11664 stock to 16015. So i guess im happy with it. Seems to be running stable for now at 56c max tem, running at 50c right now full load, an hour into Orthos blend. will let run all day and see if theres any problems. Will update again if i Try to push it further.
