Overclocking 8800 GT for folding

The stock settings for my 88GT are 600-1512-900. I've got it set at 650-1800-900 and am getting about 1.24 and 5000 PPD. I had set the shaders up to 1850 then 1825 but get a fault and it restarts.

What would be an ideal setting for getting a little bit more production from this card??

Take the core back to stock... it has no impact on folding. Then take the shaders as high as you can go.

 
OK, setter back to 600. Just got card this afternoon. Will let it fold at 1800 on the shaders for a couple of days then try to increase.

Some people like Sunin have had success by underclocking the core and memory frequencies permitting a higher shader OC. It didn't work for me but might for you. Give it a shot.

 
You can pull the core and memory back some to drop temps, but if you drop it to much it will affect your PPD. I'm doing that with my 88gt and my 98gx2.

Now for a minor question, I think it's on topic. I have a Q6600 G0 OC'ed to 3.0 GHz (9x333) and I have a 8800 GS (384 RAM) in it. At stock the 8800 GS is 550/1375/800. I've got it set with RivaTuner to 550/1703/800 and get a consistant 4507 pernts. I set the cores affinity for the SMP client at 0,1,2 and the core affinity for the GPU at core 3. I set the priority for cores 0,1,2 to low (stock) and core 3 to below normal. I've got the fan set for 90 % and the core runs about 50c with an ambient of about 26c. :) (CPU = WC'ing, GPU = stock fan with window fan blowing on a open Antec 900 case)

What I was wondering if I set the mem to 500 would it lower my cards temperatures or allow me to increase my shaders significantly (I'm temp anal to tha' max and every degree counts with me (my shaders ATM are 1703) or should I just leave well enough alone. I.m pretty happy with the card so far and it seems if I push the shaders farther I get that dreaded EUE stuff. I only experimented with incressing the shaders above 1703 a couple of times, the max is 2605. :confused:

I understand where lowering mem freq would lower my GPU temps, but I was wondering if it would be worth it or would I just be "spining my wheels"? I know GPU's are designed to run hotter than CPU's, but you know how us "temp anal computer jocks are" :rolleyes:

JWS you just have to try.. I have had some cards that if I back the core down 25 and teh memory 50-100 I get another 50 of the shaders.. but it varies, others I've had it hit the same wall no matter what I did with the gpu and mem.

Not true. It has some effect (as does memory clock), but it's much less than the effect shader clocks have.

If you're running eVGA Precision Tool, it is VERY easy to set up 2 Profiles. I've done the same with the Sig Rig (got it back from my wife).

One Profile is for gaming, so I've got everything (mem, core, & shader) maxed out.

One Profile is for folding, so I've underclocked core & mem and maxed out shader. My shader OC is much much higher than the one in my gaming profile and temps are the same for both profiles.

Also, I've set the fan to automatic on the gaming profile and just set it to 100% for the folding profile (it's going to get hot and I want to ensure that it stays cool)

756 core/1890 shaders/1053 memory

I've got an Accelero S1 cooling my card, though, so you're probably not going to hit that with stock cooling. Also, dropping my core clock doesn't let me go any higher on the shaders...most likely because the core clock at full load is only about 40C, so I'm not cooling limited.

Your numbers seem a little off. An 88GT with 1850 shaders should be doing well into the 5000s points. Also, 5500 sounds high for the 88GTX. Flip-flopped the numbers, maybe?

I'm running my 88gt @ 550/1850/800 and it's running @ 58C. This is the dual slot cooler asus card.
My 98gx2 is at 500/1803/750 and is running @ 73C on one core, and 69C on the other. Note, these temps will likely rise. My whole farm was off last night (no innerweb to feed the beast) so my ambient temps are back to "normal" of ~70F, rather than "farm normal" of ~80-90F (I've ordered a thermostat for this room).

1800 is not bad, enjoy :cool:

8800gtx should get to 5500ppd without too much trouble with a high shader clock.
Mine is pulling in 5529ppd on a p5506. I can't recall the shader value but I don't think it was under 1800.

 
1: 8800GT @ 5560ppd @ 672/948/1905 @ 57degrees c @ 100%fan
2: 8800GT @ 5543ppd @ 660/948/1905 @ 54degrees c @ 100%fan.

I love these cards.
 
Just keep an eye on them. They can build heat over time I've noticed little difference between what you have clocks wise and 600/800/1900... Same sort of PPD, but alot less heat overall.
