overclock not kicking in

ive had my msi 6950 for a while now, and did the shader unlock first day. just recently Ive been experience some problems with it. mainly my gpu overclock doesnt seem to be kicking in.

afterburner will show 950, applied and all start with system etc. but when both afterburner and tray tools OSD show the stock 810mhz core clock during load. specs are in sig

Close(dont minimize) afterburner and re-open it, after it re-opens make sure the clock is 950. Whenever this happens I fix it this way. The OSD should tell you 950 or 810 etc.. Also doublecheck that amd overdrive is disabled. Also be careful when you use afterburner to overclock as your losing the +20 powertune setting by using afterburner and it causes your clock to fluctuate like crazy down from 950 a bit too much. Test/compare amd overdrive @ 950 with +20 vs overdrive disabled and afterburner set to 950. You'll probably notice as I did that overdrive is more stable. Especially at these top end overclocks. 950-1000mhz on a 6950

I still use afterburner for the OSD and monitoring. When you use overdrive with +20 monitor how the clock fluctuates in Furmark or Kombuster or any other stress test. without +20 you'll notice it fluctuates down very often leaving your core clock to look like a zig zag. with +20 in overdrive at the same clocks you'll notice solid clocks with a few spikes here and then below the top. Much more stable. I believe that is due to the powertune setting.

Catalyst driver 11.2 had a powertune at full power checkbox in the gaming settings section in CCC and that allowed me to use afterburner and my more detailed fan profile without the dips in performance. Since that driver it seems that without using overdrive the clock fluctuates to the point where why bother using anything else besides overdrive with a +20 powertune setting.

It'd be nice if there was a way to set +20 powertune all while still being able to use another program for fan profile and overclocking etc...
