I don't understand why I am unable to overclock my processor past 3.74 GHz. And even at that it doesn't hold to that number. Everytime I restart the computer it fails and sets back down to 3.0 which is the standard clock. I am using a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfram chip and a Gigabyte EP43 UD3L motherboard with 4 gigs of G-Skill RAM and a zerotherm nirvana cooler. Everyone seems to have gotten this chip to 3.8 fairly easily and mine won't even hold properly at 3.7. It doesn't even work at anything higher than 3.74. It just automatically goes back down to 3.0. One suggestion I got from someone was that I turn up the latency on my RAM to 5-7-7-18. It is currently at 5-5-5-15. But I don't know if thats going to damage my RAM or what not. I don't know what the latency does. Any suggestions would be great. I would really love to get to 3.8 at least.

By loosening up the memory timings you might get a stable overclock at the expense of some memory performance - kinda takes a bit of stress off your chipset. But your problem might be something like a bios problem - I have similar problems in the past. It would be worth checking your bios version and consider updating it.

Find how fast your FSB can go and then find out how fast the memory will clock at stock latencies (and then at slower latencies if you so choose).
Once you know those you can determine what is limiting the overclock.

Alright so here's the more information you guys asked for. The multiplier right now is at its max of 9x. The FSB is running a 414 Mhz. I just updated the BIOS and it still won't go past this limit. I ran some tests on changing the multiplier and the clock doesn't work if the FSB is higher than 414 MHz no matter what the multiplier is, which is rather weird. As for voltages, the vcore is at 1.35 and the MCH core is at 1.3 and the DRAM voltage is at 2.00. I don't know exactly what the RAM divider is but I think its at 2.00D and on turbo. My Latency is at 5-5-5-15. Any other info needed ask away.. I just want this solved.. Temps idle around 35 degrees Celsius using a Zerotherm Nirvana fan.
