I've read that the new CPUs from AMD are now multiplier locked. Now OC'ers are turning to the mobile CPUs because they are unlocked. I was wondering, are the mobile AMD 64s like this one unlocked, and therefore easily overclockable?

I have an OC'd Intel system (2.4 --> 3.0), but I'm thinking of playing around with the AMD 64. I don't want to pony up the cash for an FX tho

I'm an overclocking junkie. I need help. But not before this next OC project...

or maybe the one after that?

:D

That mobile A64 is no different from the desktop version, except for no heat spreader. Plus because the A64 have cool and quiet there will most likely be no difference between the mobiles and the desktops in terms of multiplier unlocked. Cool and quiet makes it so all the lower multipliers are unlicked off the bat, you just cant get access to the higher multipliers unless u have and FX. the XP chips cant make the distiction between unlocking lower multipliers and unlocking all multipliers.
The best feature of the mobile chips is a) lower stock voltage and b) higher temperature handling. The A64 inthe link u gave has the same stats as a desktop version.

Wow... thanks for the info. You saved me a load of cash :p I guess it's time to look into the mobile 2500.

Anyone have a link to one for a good price? I tried Pricewatch, but they don't have mobile 2500s listed.

And if you're Canadian

Bigfoot Computers and Vibe Computers

Both of them have it, Vibe's price is better, but Bigfoot is smaller and they'll probably ship it faster, plus I like supporting them.

I don't know about availability. Stock is really short in Canada and I doubt i'll end up getting one because I'm kind of poor right now :(

why can't you just FSB overclock a normal athlon64 3200? or the cheaper athlon64 3000? you've been doing it on your P4, why not on the AMD?
