Hey, i just bought an gigabyte mother board to replace my advent one as it wouldn't let me over clock my i5 core processor easily. I was wondering how far i could push the processor with out taking to much of its life span, at the moment it sits at 2.9 GHz at 35.C. Any more info would be helpful.

The most you'll push it is 5% by adjusting bclk, that's a locked processor and is not considered overclockable.

You can push it up to 4 boost bins higher or something like that. So you should be able to get it into the 3.4ghz range

Actually, like all other non-K Intel CPUs with Turbo Boost, the i5-2310 is limited unlocked, not completely locked. At maximum overclockable multiplier settings (with a P or Z chipset based motherboard), one can attain 3.4GHz to 3.6GHz out of that CPU (depending on the number of cores in use).

I think you have to talk to the Romulans for overcloacking

Is that the case for the Core i3s and Pentiums as well?
