over clockin~

i current have what u see in my sig... 2500 barton with multiplier (built in on boarD) set for 12 i think or 12.5 my computer reads it as a 2800.. i have a radeon 9700 pro..



time to over clock, i dont wanna purchase a new system until pci express 64 bit processors and prices on other stuff come down.

my motherboard manufacture "gigabyte" has a program called easy tune.. .. its run in windows and well when i look at the numbers to change i dont really know what im changing or how to actually make my stuff run faster.. any help is much appreatiated

ooo you seem to have an unlocked processor. you got lucky

as for overclocking: not that difficult. adjust the FSB (Front Side Bus) in easytune or in the bios to, say, 200. raise the voltage on the cpu a little (.1-.15 volts should do it) and also raise the memory voltage. see what happens.

oh - is that an nforce2 motherboard? if it is then if 200fsb fails you can ratchet it down to something like 190 or lower until it gets stable. if it isn't a nforce 2 but rather a kt400, then leave the fsb at 166. if it is kt600, then 200fsb is fine, just lower the multiplier if it doesn't want to work at 200fsb with the 12/12.5 multiplier.

for the video card, get the ATITool or rage3d tweak. they're both free programs that will let you overclock. i'd recommend the ATITool because it does the overclocking for you (just 'warm up' the card by looping 3dmark for an hour or something like that before you start running the overclocking thingy)

I wouldn't use any software utility, just do it straight from the BIOS.
