Over clock acting wierd..

I OC'd my new rig to 3.15ghz. After I did whenever I boot I have to push the power button twice before it will post. First push it automatically shuts off then I push button again and it fires right up..... I set back to default and it starts fine now! Is this something to worry about??

Has anyone ever had this happen?

when the bios is testing the overclock its unstable.. most likely the second restart is bypassing the start up test.. might need to mess with some voltages.. or it could be the PSU..
 
I know I'm gonna get my ass flamed for saying this but why bother oc'n at all? You got a sweet CPU 4 cores what is the need really? My take on this whole overclocking thing is it really ins't "nessasary" like back in the days of the 300celeronA. From my experience when you start OC'n and changing voltages and "odd" things always start to pop up....Just run her stock and be happy and problem free man...

because its all about being [H]ard, maleficarus.. im not going to flame you over the post.. some people just arent happy with stock.. i never have been.. even back in the old p1 days.. i overclocked everything i could possibly over clock through out my years of building systems..

Why the hell NOT?

I don't know...because you can get significantly more performance out of the same part?!!!!? And 'odd' things don't happen if your OC is set up right and you have the proper amount of knowledge or at least a place to go to to troubleshoot. I'm not saying you're dumb...I'm just saying that a proper OC setup does not have odd problems.

In addition, this is the fucking [H] forums. This is what we do.

Now back to the task hand....Munch, you should post some of your voltages, but I'd say you need to increase your CPU voltage.
 
I was in a similar boat as you.. When I first started overclocking, weird things happened, and I was WAY too conservative with my tweaks because I was so uncertain about what I was doing. But if you have a place to get help, or even have a friend who can help you learn to overclock, it is simple, and it makes you feel like you made the best deal in the world.

One fine example of why you would want to overclock is to get a processor to 4.0 GHz. No processor's default clock at the moment breaks that 4.0, yet an E8600 (Or any of the E8xxx series) can easily reach that and beyond with minimal impacts to heat output. So to not overclock that would almost be foolish. Why not get more of what you paid for? If you could get the performance of a Ferrari for the price of a Hyundai with a couple of tweaks in the engine, wouldn't you do it?
 
I found out that the issue I am having is a common double start at post issue that has been reported before. On the UD5 Gigabyte has come out with a bios update that fixes this issue. The UD4P is still being fixed and will be addressed in a later Bios update. I found the info on another forum(tweektown), under Gigabyte support. The author is also a tester for tweek town and he has the same board I do and he has his at 4.0ghz. He is having the double start boot issue too, and he is in contact with Gigabyte trying to resolve this issue! He told me it doesn't seem to harm anything just is annoying...
