Yesterday our all loving exchange server went down. People with laptops could still open outlook to look at their calander, but some people with desktops could not open it up, an error would come up saying something about the exchange server being down.

Now the 99% of the laptops have the latest microsoft has to offer and the desktops do not, some of the desktops were running 2000 with office xp. I was just wondering if the newer version of outlook was able to open offline and if there is a setting to make it so the older comps can open outlook offline.

tell me if something did not make sense
thanks

Outlook 2003 has "cached exchange mode" enabled by default allowing OL2003 to open without a live connection to the Exchange server. I don't think any older versions have the capability.

Note: In cached mode, no new emails will be sent or received as long as the Exchange server is down.

Ok that makes sense. If any one knows if outlook xp can pull off some thing like that let me know.

thanks
