I was thinking of setting up a backup rig in my basement to play music to my backyard. Anyone have any experience with a set of outdoor speakers that will work off of a computer setup.
 
Get a cheap stereo receiver, then just run line level outputs from your soundcard, perhaps with a splitter so that you can run your main speakers without having to switch cables. Then, just buy a set of outdoor speakers and hook em up like normal.
 
you are probably right,
I was trying to keep the setup simple (from a # of components standpoint) but it looks like I'm probably going to have to include one or two stereo components into the deal.
 
Well, at the worse you could just get another set of PC speakers and some splitters and place the speakers outside.
 
I do have some cheapo's hanging around that I could sacrifice to the rain gods, would be interesting to see how long they lasted out in the elements.
 
Lemme dig up the name of a pair of outdoor speakers I had that were quite good...dont remember the brand name now though
