Ok, I really wanted to move into the WS camp but after my experience with the 2005FPW I am less then thrilled.

What I want to know, other than the Gateway WS LCD what are my other options. The screen door effect on the 2005FPW is really a deal breaker as I can't live with it.

What other WS 20" LCD screens are in or about the same price range as the Dell? ~$480.

Ok, I will reply to myself with some other options.

How do these grab you?

Acer AL2032
Phillips 200W6CS

The Acer AL2032WA (or the F-20 variant) looks like a really, really nice monitor. It's a bit more expensive than the 2005fpw, but it looks like it might be worth it.

The Viewsonic VX2025wm that's coming out this month looks great as well. Check it out at the Viewsonic website. It has better specs than the Dell, looks nicer IMO, and is going to retail for $449.

Yeah, im gonna wait for the VX2025, im not in the mood to play "Swap the Dell" with the 2005FPW after my 2405 disaster. What have you heard on it? Is it really coming out next month and where did you get that retail figure at?

Product page:

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx2025wm/

Press release:

http://www.viewsonic.com/companyinfo/pressrelease_detail.cfm?key_press_release=1114

The press release says the VX2025wm will have a 600:1 contrast ratio, 8ms response time, 300 nits of brightness, 1680x1050 res, a MSRP of $449, and an estimated release of February.

The article also mentions future Viewsonics coming out later in the year to have the OverDrive technology, which should be interesting.

Actually its 800:1 contrast in the spec listings. Wonder which is correct. Either way, i'll be picking this baby up once it hits the e-stores. I just hope to god it doesn't have that damn backlight bleeding like the VP930b does.

the acer is a great monitor with crytsal bright technology,

contrast ratio 1:800, 8ms

That was an insightful comment.

Talked to Viewsonic today and they said mid Feb. release. He told me to call back next week and he could pin a date down.

I would never buy an acer monitor

Want to please let us know why?

I've got an Acer TravelMate 8100 laptop and I believe it uses a panel similar to the one in their AL2032 monitor. It's got the same native resolution (1680x1050) and is absolutely amazing.

Doesn't appear this has all the HD inputs as the Gateway does, if that's important.

Don't matter to me, only think I hook up to my monitors is my PC. My TV does the rest.
