Hello Folks,

Just bought a WD Black 1TB HDD and want to migrate my OS from a Seagate 1TB drive (C drive) and every thing else to the WD Drive. What can I do to accomplish this and make the new drive the C drive. I suspect I must use a particular software, but not sure and don't know how. Would greatly appreciate any and all help in this matter.

I think WD has their own free download to do this, however i use Acronis

We really should have a sticky for disk imaging software

Since it is a WD drive, you can use this download free.
It is meant to do what you need and it is very user friendly.

Edit:
After the clone is complete, you need to enter the BIOS and change the boot priority such the your WD drive is ahead of your old drive.
Then, the next time you boot, WD will be C and your old drive will automatically get a different drive letter.

Yes, I agree with making a sticking for this disk imageing process.

OK, cloning is done. But now I don't know which drive is which.

In bios, I have:
IDE Channel 0 Master None
IDE Channel 0 Slave None
IDE Channel 1 Master None
IDE Channel 1 Slave WDC
IDE Channel 3 Master None
IDE Channel 3 Slave None
IDE Channel 4 Master None
IDE Channel 4 Slave ST31...(Seagate)
IDE Channel 5 Master None
IDE Channel 5 Slave None

Is this confiming what MrF mentioned above about "boot priority such the your WD drive is ahead of your old drive. Then, the next time you boot, WD will be C and your old drive will automatically get a different drive letter."?

Now I didn't change anything. After the cloning, this config was found. But in disc management and My Computer, I can't determine whether the WDC becomes C drives already or not. Looked in C drive's properties but that wouldn't tell me whether its the WDC ro Seagate? What can I do to determine which is which?

There is another BIOS page that is specific to boot.
That is where you need to place WD ahead of Seagate.
What is the brand and model of your motherboard, and i will tell you where to find it if you cannot find it.

My mobo: DFI LANParty UT X58-T3eH8 for Core i7

After checking around, I did found out that my Seagate is still the C drive. So I would really be grateful for your help on this as I don't know where to look.

On the Advanced BIOS Features page (http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTIzNzUxMzgzOXdUTjZ1U1pGNVhfMl8yX2wuZ2lm), select "Hard Disk Boot Priority".

On the hard drive boot priority page (http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTIzNzUxMzgzOXdUTjZ1U1pGNVhfMl8zX2wuZ2lm), place the drive you want to boot to ahead of all the other ones.
