ok

so the other day i was cleaning up my cables which included my removing all my cables and reseating them in their sockets and after i had done that i turned my computer on and both my windowsXP and ubuntu linux installations acted as if i had just replaced all my hardware is their any particular reason my computer may have done that.

also at the time(i have sold most of my hardware) this was my specs.

Intel 3.0Ghz Prescott
Gigabyte 8S661FXM-RZ motherboard
512 MB PC3200
128MB XFX MX4000
80GB seagate 7200RPM(Windows Drive)
20GB seagate 5200RPM(Linux Drive)

did u put the cables back into the IDE slots that they were originally in? meaning did u put the Master and Slave that was originally on Primary IDE Channel back on to the Primary IDE Channel and like wise for the Slave? Did u change the master and slave settings? Any kind of change like that would cause windows to think new drives were installed. I am pretty sure it would happen on SATA as well.
