Hi,
I am big noob when it comes to overclocking (actually a big noob in general). I tried both orthos and prime95 to test stability. I am running my 4400 at 2.60Ghz atm. Ran prime blend torture test for over 6 hrs without single error, but when it comes to orthos, I cant keep it going for more than 20 minute.
Should I stop continuing OCing because my system didn't pass orthos, or should I push more as long as I can pass prime?

Orthos is basically the same thing as Prime95 and if either are failing you have issues.

Are you using same testing methods on both? Maybe you're using Small FFTs on Prime95 which tests only cpu stability and Blend or Large FFTs on Orthos which tests memory as well and if your memory is unstable you can't pass Orthos.

Are you running 2 primes? One for each core? If not it probably isn't stressing the failing core like Orthos is.

If he is running Prime 95 v25.3 or higher maybe lower, the program will use one instance to test any cores which makes it better than Orthos imho.

Yeah I just found that out. I had been using an old version for so long. Just updated it because of this thread heh. So OP, check your prime version. If you don't get 2 worker threads then it's only stressing one core.

I like Orthos for testing a dual core CPU. I like the GUI and that it tells me how long its been running. It also seems to crap out (for me) before Prime95 torture tests do but for some reason I have read others having the same or opposite problem. It also runs for me 1-2C higher then Prime.

I have always wondered why some people get an error on one but not the other. Damn strange if you ask me.

Thanks for the replies,
I do not know much about either program. All I did with prime is I downloaded, and drag the .exe and .dll file to my desktop. and run torture test.

for orthos I just simply click start and let it roll (until 15 mins later it starts beeping:()

I am trying to get the most out of my system, and because its pretty old, it's great for noobs (=me) to learn how to OC.

I heard all the crazy number people get out of 4400+, while being stable ( that means passing stress tests I suppose ).

The best I can do with mine so far is 2.50 Ghz, go for something higher orthos turns red :)mad:).
