I am trying to go nostalgic and play GR. It won't launch into the game. I get a Windows error saying that GR has stopped working. I have changed the desktop to 16 bit mode and it still won't work.

Any other ideas?

I have it working on Vista64bit fine but am on another PC in Win7 right now so can't see exact settings I used. Make sure you have directx9.0c installed, set compatibility mode to allow admin rights, and try setting to XP compat mode. The only other thing that sometimes makes an older game run when it won't is to disable visual themes and desktop composition under compat settings.

Well I had an issue with Vietcong on Win7.
I just went "bugger this" and partitioned my HD, installed XP, Dual-booted and never looked back.

man i spent hours playing ghost recon back in the day. mostly inching my way around the huge maps only to get taken down by an enemy i never saw to begin with...but had fun playing nonetheless. maybe i should dig my cd's up and see if i can get it to run.

Me and a friend were talking about GR with the want to play some of the missions we enjoyed playing over and over again. I installed it fine on Windows 7 x64. Played it and all. The only issue was that Creative's Alchemy wont work for this, and I cared not to tune it myself for EAX.

Honestly, others may not like it but Dragon Rising has been fun for us. Teaming up and co-oping has been the shit after a few beers, a few fire fights, and a call for some arty. Decided to get it when it was around $10 on Steam. I do not regret it one bit. It is like GR say all over again, but better.

I wanted to resurrect this thread to see if anyone has a thought on why it won't run.

Is there a log anywhere that I can be pointed to, to find out why it won't run?

I launch it and immediately it fails with a GHOST RECON HAS STOPPED WORKING error.

No, but it must work fine for most because you can buy it from gog.com. Maybe it is the copy protection and you need a crack.
