Hey,

I'm curious, how much do you all organize what is on your hard disks?

I have two drives, one 100 gig WD, and one 250 gig Maxtor. My general solution when getting a new computer has been to move everything form the old discs into a folder on the new drives, thus, on my current WinXP box, I have the remnants of two old machines, with a Windows95 install and a WinME install lurking about somewhere.

I am also a big digital packrat, I never throw anything away. I have the freenet sourcecode from like four years ago, MP3s and Video files (all legal of course) across 5 different folders in 3 logical drives, and well, just everything is scattered.

One reason I can never get around to backing stuff up is because I have no clue where it all is, if I wanted to back up I would have to get everything just to make sure I had it all. Do you all go through the care to actually organize what you have stored on your HDs or are you like me and just let it fall where it may?

LOL...check your spelling of the title.... :D

I just have a general way of organizing...

I have 4 Hard drives in my computer....

Each drive is basically set up for storage....one has mostly music, one has mostly movies, one mostly games and other files, etc. I just have folders for everything, and everything is clearly marked.

I've never had to copy things from one computer to the other, as I just have 1 computer, but I'm also not a packrat....if I don't use something or have a need for it, I dont leave it on my computer...sounds like you could use a spring cleaning on your computer if you have Win95 and WinMe laying around on it... :D

Fixed the title... Interesting misspelling :)

For my data organization, it's pretty random... Two hard drives each with multiple partitions. Some store pictures some store music and movies, then a couple OS partitions (Windows and Fedora 2)

AGh, yes, thanks for fixing the title (eck, when I worked at Circuit City I was really bad about talking to customer's about 'dick drives' but that is another story)...

I guess maybe a bit of spring cleaning is in order, but my other problem is I used to be really paranoid about what I had on my comp (hell, Ihave MP3s and pr0n on here dating back to when I was 16) so I hid it in randomly named folders deep in system directories... eh, I just need to take the time to root through it all.

I also have a 30 gig linux partition (Mandrake) than I am ready to get rid of. I played around with it for a while, got bored, and well, I'd rather use windows, though I will surely play around with an x86 MacOS X compile when it hits the net.
