I'm ordering the following from Newegg tomorrow morning, and just want to make sure I'm making the right choices, and that there isn't better out there for the money.

Parts I have - case, fans, fan controller, Antec True 480w PSU, two hard drives.

Things I'm planning on ordering:

Mobo - ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - regular edition - $122.00

CPU -
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor - $222.00

RAM -
Crucial Ballistix 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory - $119.00 (this is only $4.00 more than thier standard RAM...

Video -1x eVGA 256-P2-N516 Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 - $299 - (will get another down the road when I feel I need it)

Comes up to ~$775 shipped. I don't want to spend more than $800 here. That being said, is there anywhere else I should shop, or anything I should substitute that may give me better performance? This will be the first system I've built in a few years (see sig!) so I'm not up on all the good stuff.

ANY and ALL help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

No one?? Suggestions please! Ordering this in the next hour, just want to make sure I'm getting the right stuff!!!

Thanks!!!!

I would spend a little more money on the memory and buy 1 stick of 1GB instead of 2 sticks of 512MB. Then in the future, you can buy another 1GB stick to make 2GB.

Games like Need for Speed Most Wanted and Battlefield 2 run a little better on machines with over 1GB of ram. No doubt in the near future, 2GB of memory will be needed so save yourself the hassle and buy 1 stick of 1GB.

Running memory in 2 DIMMS is better than 4 DIMMS.

I was planning on getting a new comp at the beginning of the year and this looks similar to what I was thinking. I have a 17" lcd monitor so I don't need a graphics card that can play everything at 1600x1200. Is the 7800 GT powerful enough to run say.. F.E.A.R at 1280x1024? If so what AA/AF to expect?

current system-
p4 2.4c @ 3ghz
1gig pc3200 geil
ati 9700 pro
