So I just ordered a piece of hardware from Dell. Unfortunately, they managed to muff up not only the shipping address but the name of the person to ship it to. So when the package fails to reach an address that doesn't exist, there is no way for me to go pick it up since I can't prove that I'm someone I'm not. These all seems logical besides for the fact that even if they hand't muffed up the shipping contact, I still couldn't change the shipping address on it. Just for curiosity's sake, I asked UPS if they would somehow notify the driver of this nonexistent address. That isn't the case, however, and I find it odd that there isn't a system in place to prevent UPS wasting time and money. After talking with Dell customer care some more, I also discovered that there is no way for Dell to call back an order until UPS has notified them of a nonexistent address. This also strikes me as odd. Apparently if I ship something to an incorrect address there is no way for me to have that changed mid-shipment. I would have to wait for the package to be returned to me. Is this just that odd of a scenario or am I right to be confused? Anyway, instead of waiting for the package to make it back to Dell and then have the address changed for re-shipment, I decided to do the order all over again right now and hopefully will be getting what I ordered much earlier and hopefully be receiving my refund on the muff up soon thereafter. Ugh!

In indian accent "welcome to dell customer support how can I answer none of your questions and leave you more flustered then 5 minutes ago?"

this is a common occurance with dell, just sit back and enjoy the misery, er i mean, well they're not going to lift a figure to fix it so i guess misery is the correct word. sorry :|

You should try doing onsite repair on Dell computers and having to call them up over 50% of the time because they shipped out the wrong part or defective parts or shipped a box with a packing list that lists 5-6 parts but there is only one part in the box.

Or if your Indian, like me, then you can try speaking hindi ;) Much easier than trying to decipher Inglish (Indian English) :D

Just thought I would write back on how this issue went. I called Dell tech support again after the order was returned, got passed between a few operators, was finally able to explain my problem to customer service representative, at which point the the person said "I am sorry for this incovenia-" and the call was mysteriously dropped. So I decided to deal with tech support via chat (which was the only way I was able to get something shipped to my correct address). However on this issue of course the chat person didn't have access to the information that the phone people do, whatever that means. So, back to calling them on the phone. Just in case you didn't know, the fastest way to speak to an actual person when calling tech support is to shout obscene words at the top of your lungs. Also fun and stress relieving as well. As an interesting side note, you constantly get a "direct" number for Customer Care (1-800-624-9897) which actually is just a direct number for the recording that you called in the first place (1-866-955-2251). Anyway, passed from specialist to specialist, trying to be as polite and friendly as possible so that the call wouldn't be unexpectedly 'dropped', I finally got someone who was able to get me a full refund. Moral of the story - don't use Dell if you don't have to.

friends dont let friends buy dell

You can get plenty of stuff from Dell, from video cards, to SSDs to Lian-Li cases and a lot of the time, shipping is free. Although it helps if they actually ship it to you in the OPs case.

I've been ordering from Dell for over 12 years and have only had one incomplete order (a refurbished product where the box contents did not match the packing list AKA someone in the warehouse screwed up). It was fixed immediately. I guess my question is how do you screw up filling out an online shipping form? Or do those that have problems order by phone and spit out their name and address and hang up? The courteous thing to do would be to say "My address is 48 Main Street, that's M as in Mike, A as in Alex..."
