Hi, I am switching to nvidia from ati. The card is arriving today. I know this has been posted 100 times, but I can't remember the order. I'm back at college and forgot to bring alll my cds, so reformatting isn't an option until I go home the next time. Please help.

Order for removing drivers/changing cards?

Driver cleaner 3
Try this:
1 remove drivers through control panel and any Oclk utility(ie riva tuner)
2 reboot into safe mode
3 cancel "found new hardware"
4 Run Driver Cleaner 3 (follow directions)
skip to 7 if new card is in
5 shut down
6 install new card
7 reboot
8 cancel "found new hardware"
9 install new drivers
10 may have to install monitor drivers
11 run coolbits
12 setup vid card through prop page
13 start fraggin!

Unless you can back up you statement, You sound alot like Dan Rather!
I have yet to have a problem with DC3, It also can remove your cab files.
Leaves no musty after taste to boot!
if you boot into safe mode none of the .dll or video card "required" files are going to be in memory and will get removed correctly if you add/remove programs. my order of things is...
1. with old video card in my pc, reboot to safe mode
2. uninstall ALL drivers/oc programs for it
3. turn off computer
4. remove card/install new card
5. reboot windows, cancel new hardware found messages
6. install drivers
works every time..if you go to add remove programs inside of windows(not safe mode) all the files that are loaded into memory will remain there once you install the new video card driver and possibly cause conflicts. so to be safe, follow what I said =)
you can...if you have extreme paranoia, run driver cleaner 3..but its not necessary if you boot to safe mode and remove drivers taht way
