I'm starting to believe there is something wrong with this chip. When I first got it the IHS was so bad that it would hit the high 60's while dual priming at stock volts/clocks. Once I finally popped the IHS off I'm still having trouble keeping temps below 50c at stock.

Tested with muliple installs of artic silver using the AMD heatsink, and a Zalman 7000B. I understand that this chip would run a good deal hotter, but it's ridiculous that I can get decent temps even after I took off the IHS.

My opteron 180, Which I have OC to 2.55ghz (212 X 12, Memory @ 212Mhz and very tight timings). Unfortuantly, It takes rediculous voltage/heat to stabalize it at 2.60ghz. It boots fine into windows at 2.85ghz but gives prime error for rounding rite away.

At 2.55ghz, 1.325V + 100mv Vcore Overvolt --- I get 57C doing a memtest for around an hour. Thats the max it hits.

With memtest, + Prime -- It goes to 61, Sometimes 59-60, Sometimes 62 Tops.

I thought its kinda high too...
Considering my old 2.7ghz venice ran 54C Full 100% Load (Was a 3000+ 1.8ghz OC as well!)

Its been said opterons are meant to tolerate the heat? *shrugs*

Happy/Unhappy with the chip, Shoulda got intel, but meh.,, This is plenty fast for now, And any true dual core game (Quake4, UT2007) Will run great with these chips at high settings.

The chip I feel overclocks fairly well. I did get a 3.0ghz validation screen on 1.4v before temps crashed the system. I feel that if I get the temps under control I should be able to get the system stable at around 2.8-2.9 though.
