I'm sure this has been asked dozens of times, but here goes-

1. What desktop resolution do you run at,

2. What video card do you run this at,

3. and Why?

Also, what do YOU think is the optimum resolution?

I run 1280x1024 on my 9800 Pro flashed to an XT because my 17" flat screen will not go any higher.

1. 1280 x 1024
2. Radeon x800 Pro
3. Because that's the limitation of my LCD

Since we're talking DESKTOP, lots of things determine an optimal resolution, but really, what your eyes can tolerate is the biggest factor. Another would be the window sizes of applications and tools you use. The higher the resolution, the more you can fit on the screen at once.

1. 1600x1200
2. 6800GT
3. Looks the best on my monitor. Lots of working space.

I run 1600X1200 on both my monitors.

Desktop.jpg

1024 x 768
5900 Ultra
I would still be using 800x600 if I didn't need the extra space for icons.

1280x960
9700
19" LG CRT

I like to lean back in my chair and then 1600x1200 becomes a bit to small on some pages.

2560x1024 on dual LCD's with a 9800 Pro, soon to be 6800GT. Cause I felt like it.

the one before 1600x1200 1280x1024 i believe.

gives me lots of space and i can still read the text and can set my refreshrate to 100hz.

9700 pro.

1920x1440 on my nec fp1350 on my radeon 9500 np

looks awesome, has tons of room for every thing, it is very clear and i find it easier on my eyes than lower resolution

when i am gaming i use 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 depending on the game

1600x1200 crt 19" monitor, because i can read it from 3feet away and a hell of alot of working space,if i could go higher i would

I run 1600x1200 on my 19" Mitsubishi DP930SB at 85Hz. I also use an XFX 6800GT.

I prefer higher resolutions like 1600x1200 because i dont like large icons on my desktop and i like lots of viewing room in FireFox.

1024 x 768 because any higher than that and I drop to 60Hz refresh rate :(.

It's all because of my monitor, 17" NEC MultiSync FE771 SuperBright. I love it's contrast and vivid colours, though.

1024x768 so i can have 120Hz refreshing rate - my eyes hurt after a while with anything below that...i even game at 1024x768

9700PRO

1280x1024
BFG 6800 GT
Would run at 1600x1200 but monitor will only run 60 hz at that res. So unless I want a killer headache, I'm at 1280x1024 @ 75hz.

1280x1024
Geforce 2 GTS
Because that is naitive for my 17" LCD

I used to use 1024x768 with my 21" CRT because I found it hard to read text at any higher resolution (but 1280x1024 on the 17" LCD does not seem to be a problem) and my P3 800 + Geforce 2 GTS strugled at higher resolutions.

Aston

1024x768 because text can be read, I only have a 17" monitor, and I like that resolution for games. Usually I can max out my video card by adding AA and AF without moving up in resolution. Oh, and I hate it when I have games at a different resolution than my desktop and it shifts the picture to one side or another of the monitor. I like for the entire monitor to be used.

1280x960
Hercules 9800Pro @ 9800XT Speeds
ViewSonic P95f+b CRT

Best resolution at the fastest Refresh Rate of 100Hz for DVDs, Games and overall use. Anything more so gets a bit hard to see or fuzzy at higher resolutions to me with small text and stuff. I find it annoying to read small text at any higher resolution on a 19" well 1280x1024 is the same basically, but not ideal for dvd movies I find....

1280 x 960 on a 9800 Pro with P95f+.

I would like to run at 1600 x 1200 but the text is too damn small for me. Also I like 4:3 ratio better so I settled with 1280 x 960 instead of 1280 x 1024.

3200 x 1200 on a dell 2001 fp and samsung 955df
on the 9800 in my sig
i like lots of space to work

(Radeon 9700 Pro)
left: 1200x1600@60Hz Samsung SyncMaster 213T (21" vis)
monitor: 1600x1200@100Hz IIyama VisionMaster Pro 510 (20" vis)

Kind of a weird setup, but I love it nonetheless.

I'm planning on getting a 2560x1600 Apple Cinema display whenever they come out and someone figures out how to run it off of 2 single link DVI-I interfaces. Or wait until someone else comes out with similar model (preferably with same pixel pitch as my 213T, or about a 32" display).

I run;
1600x1200 at 85Hz
ATI 9500
Viewsonic P815 21in monitor

I run at this as it's the is the highest with a good refresh rate that the monitor will go. the monitor will do 1920x1440 but at a 60Hz refresh. that is just to low of a refresh rate for me...

Main Rig: 1280x1024 @100Hz - 9800Pro: My eyes are especially senstitive to low refresh rates, so I prefer this resolution because of the overall size and the clarity of the picture

Second Rig: 1024x768@72Hz - Ti4600: Native Res of the panel

1280 x 1024 @ 85Hz on a 19" (18 viewable) gateway VX900T

anything larger and the refresh is too low and the text too small. I would like a monitor capable of higher refresh rates, but my trusty gateway is doing well enough for me not to shell out for another monitor, lcd or crt.

oh, and that's on a 9800pro

1280x720 on a 27" syntax olevia hdtv. it is completely and totally awesome for photoshop, which is probably the most important app i have (i love to take photos)

1152x864 w/9800Pro 256

That's the max my monitor will do @ 100Hz.

I *hate* anything below 85, 60 being absolutely TERRIBLE. Does way too much damage to the eyes.

1280x1024 @ 75Hz

Limitation of my video card. Still using a GeForce 3. Next week I finally upgrade to a 6800 Ultra.

man..wtf

Now THAT's funny.

I assume you got the 5 1/4" floppy version of FarCry? How many floppies was that? Let's see, 4 GB divided by 360K? = 11,111.1111~ floppies. "Please insert Disk # 6,792.3"

Oh SHIT! I broke one! :D

Right now, I'm running at 1024X768 @ 85Hz, on a BBA 9600 Pro. I like playing games at 1024x768, so I can adjust to it while doing regular browsing. Also, I don't like the delay switching between the game and the desktop (like 5 or 6 seconds while the monitor changes the resolution), so I just have them matched.
