Optimal viewing position?

I'm making some changes in my room to accommodate a new TV.

I know there's a site for optimal viewing distance, but I was wondering about height and angle. Should a screen be positioned directly in front of the eyes, or in any angle? I see a lot of TVs (and computer monitors) which are positioned higher than eye level, and it doesn't feel right.

Another question:
Is there any wall mount that allows turning the TV to a perpendicular position (or close to it)? As in, 90 degrees from the wall it's mounted on.

Yes, there are flat panel mounts available that not only allow for up/down tilt but some also allow a certain amount of side to side swivel...I don't know about 90 degrees though. I have a 42" plasma that sits on a coffee table using the attached stand and it's just about the height of a normal tv. I've seen many people mount their flat screen above fireplaces, but in most cases it seems unnaturally high...if I mounted mine on the wall it would probably be close to the same height that it is now. It's not an issue with plasma but something you have to consider with lcd's is the viewing angles...newer models are much better in this area but if I were mounting an lcd above normal viewing height then I would definitely get an adjustable mount.
