Well, it has been a long time [H]ard. I have decided to throw some money into some new optical drives since my cd burner is having some problems and while I am at it, I think I should get a new DVD-ROM because mine is pretty loud(stock compaq.)

I would like to get a DVD burner and I am thinking of PIONEER Black DVD±RW Drive
Anybody have any comments on the drive? Any other drives that have less write-error?

As for my DVD-ROM, I was planing on getting a Sony Black 52x32x52x16 Combo Drive, Model CRX320E
Any quieter drives?

Also, if you have suggestions and/or links, please refer to black faced models only.

The Pioneer is an awesome drive. It even burns supported 8X media at 16X. If you want to save a little money, you can get the OEM version (DVR-108).
 
Save some bux and get a liteon burner. I had a pionner a04 and it was fantastic and quiet and upgraded to a liteon 8x dvd+r and -r and its fantastic as well. I have burnt several spindles of dvds without problem. The liteon drives seem to be as quit as the pioneer drives only complaint is the drive tray is a bit on the slow side to eject and feels cheap.
 
I have a Lite-On DVD-ROM and it sounds like my case is about to take off and shoot through the ceiling. I use my Memorex CD-RW to read CDs, and even it can get a bit loud, but not nearly as loud as the Lite-On.

I have a Lite-On and it's worked perfect for the few months that I've had it. My previous drive was Lite-on too. I just upgraded to faster speeds, otherwise my 1st one is still good.

If you really need a second dvd drive, go with the cheap Lite-on mentioned before.
 
I don't mean to say Lite-On drives are bad. They're wonderful; mine is just horrendously loud. Maybe my case manifests the vibrations.
 
Yah, I am paint my case, and one thing I am going to do is get rubber grommits to screw in for a few reasons, A) less metal to metal contact, B)Less vibration.

Get a Benq 1620 DVD writer, and a Sony combo drive. Benq drives have been getting some really good reviews lately.
