Has anyone found a way to get the Optical In to work on the XFI with Vista? What I mean is I have a 5.1 Logitech Z630 computer speaker setup and would like to have my 360 audio go into the Optical In jack on the XFI breaker box and then have the XFI output it to my Z630's. This worked in XP flawlessly but with Vista it does not. Anyone found a way around this?

i was also looking for the same solution for the same reason's as yourself, using the x-fi as a 5.1 decoder. unfortunately the creative software is not anything like that for xp, so it looks like decoding options are not available at this time. just another reason why i dual boot.... :(

The optical in works fine, it is the Dolby Digital decoding that doesn't. If you use it S/PDIF it works just as intended. As for doing what you want, search a ways back on this forum, someone found a way to make it work by snaffling some DLLs out of the Dell drivers.

Yup. it was an easy fix, and I'll reitereate here...

Simply copy the CTAC32k.sys file from the Dell R144728 audio driver set (X:\Dell\Drivers\R144728\Drivers\WDM\win2k_xp\i386 for Vista 32-bit or X:\Dell\Drivers\R144728\Drivers\WDM\win2k_xp\amd64 for Vista 64-bit) into the "X:\Windows\System32\Drivers\" folder.

Then restart your PC and open the Creative Audio Console. Click the "Decoder" tab and select "Use Built-In Decoder." Then select the "SPDIF I/O" tab and select "DTS SPDIF-In decode" under "SPDIF Input Settings."

You may have to unmute the SPDIF-In and Digital-In under "Levels" in the Speaker Properties in your Vista's Sound Properties section.

Congratulations, you have DD and DTS 5.1 back at the driver level from both Coaxial and Toslink inputs.

Yeah it worked. I totally forgot about my other thread on this. Lets just say its been a long summer and my brain is having some time remembering......

But yeah it worked. Sorry Retro I never got back to you. Like I said, long summer.
