I had this idea of a mod for a CD/DVD drive and a case, and I would like to know if it has done before...

NOTE: This can only be done to the top optical drive...

You cut a window in the top of the case. It should be about a 5 inchs square or a 5 inch diameter circle.
Then you cut out the top of the CD drive and make that a window also.

That way you could see the CD spinning
Maybe add a few LED's for when it's dark...

How about mounting a laser inside the drive, to bounce off the top of the disk and dance around the room? :D

this has been done alot of times, it looks pretty cool, i get alot of compliments on my XBOX since you can see the CD/DVD spinning through the window

another mod that has been done a number of times is the HD window mod... its slightly more rare, cause alot of people arnt willing to crack open their brand new 120gig drives.. ::cold sweat::
but the effect is cool, specially with a few 3 mm LEDs in there... i havent yet got the balls to do this to any HD larger than 10 gig, and i think i lost the optoisolator chip i had.( this was so i could link my LEDs to the mobo HD activity light connection..)
so whenever i have time/motivation to play around with it, i shall.

what about no window...

just lights when the drives open so the LED's shine down on the CD as it opens and closes?
