For those of you picking up an opty 165 from the egg hoping to get the magic stepping I just got mine in today...CCBBE 0610. It was shipped from TN as far as I can tell. Just wanted to get everyones hopes up :)

I got an Opteron 170 from NE back in Dec with the same stepping. Current oc in sig. Maybe going to push it further in a couple weeks.

post up when you've started OCing it.

i like to tempt fate and surf the [H] while prime is running. :D

You mean you're not supposed to do stuff while dual primes are running? Does that cause errors?

no, it's not a big deal b/c prime will run behind other activities. i wouldn't start doing any 3D modelling or anything though. My web runs crappy when it's running, but it works. I just revel in the torture I've been dealing one of my older s939 chips.

it doesnt seem like any one moved to AM2 ... with all the 165 threads...

i am skipping AM2, Socket F will be next, and I'm hoping R600 and SocketF isn't a fumbled ball

what cooler did you get with yours?

i thought the 165 came with the 4 heatpipe cooler, but mine arrived with the 2 heatpipe cooler :(

good thing i still had a 4pipe cooler to use :D

My 170 came with the 2 pipe cooler, as well. I have the 4 pipe 80mm fan cooler that I bought a while ago, so I reused it.

Well, I ordered my 165 about 3 weeks ago, then had to RMA it because the Core1 was failing at stock volts/speeds in all test/applications. I sent it back, and the new one came today. Here's the specs:

Shipped from California warehouse:

Opteron 165 Retail box
OSA165DAA6CD
LCB9E 0646 RPMW
Y974646K60461

Using Systool, and lowering HTT and RAM divider, I got both cores up to 296FSB at stock volts before erroring. Tried voltage bumps, got to 300 at my boards max volts. Lowered the FSB to 290. Here's some screens:

What's curious to me is that the CPU @ idle is running @ 95F. under load, 103F. Pretty damned good, especially at stock volts. I was concerned about this stepping, but my worries have been put to rest. I'm going to punish the thing over the next few days, and in a week, try to hit over 300FSB. Currently, voltage bumps get me to 300, but 299 is max stable, dual Prime'ing. I think I've got room left to go, what do you think?

Very nice and good luck!!!

Just started the overclocking...currently at 2.2 and going smoothly. I'm using stock cooling and core temp is at 54C under full load. Anyone know what a safe temp is for the Opty 165 under 100% load.

that seems really high.

mine core temp hits 60c under full load at 1.40volts and 2.7ghz
thats with the 4 heatpipe amd cooler

Coretemp reads about 10C higher than the CPU casing, and the case on my 165 is rated to 57C (TCase Max). So you're probably fine.

Mine reads 60C Coretemp (and 50C CPU temp) at full load, if I use 1.45V. I'm also on the stock cooler, but ambient temp is pretty cold here in Boston. :)

yeah, we're having a big ass ice storm in OK, so my heat is up to 77f in the house

Yikes, I'm moving to Boston in a few months. I don't like coldness :(

It was 18 this morning, but a few days ago we had all time highs of around 70. Global warming I guess. Boston's not cold like it used to be.

Finally I am finished :)

CPU running at 2.7 with 1.4V
Core temp is around 64-66 but as far as I can tell this is acceptable.

+1 for boston. it hasn't been cold at all this year. freakishly warm actually.
/hijack

isn't 66-68 a little warm?

zv

Yeah 66-68 is pretty hot. Whats your setup? (Heatsink? Mobo?) Also what was your temps at default speeds and voltage? It could just be that the temps reads high.

I have a 165 @ 1.4v that would stay at about 50 C under load.

Newegg slipped up on my 170 order, instead I got a a 175! SWEET! :D I called them up and they decided to honor the difference! W00T! I'll die happy now.

Ordered 170 from the egg on the 9th and got CCBBE 0610 stepping, runnning 3GHZ w/o porblems.
