Just wanted some opinions,

I have an opteron 165 that will do 2700 MHZ @ 1.39V (CPU-Z) (1.425 in bios)
It will also do 2800MHZ stable (for the past hours anyways still priming) @ 1.568v (CPU-Z) (it failed this setting after 4 hours with 1.5V, so I bumped it to 1.568)

It seems to stay pretty much at 43-44C but it did hit 45C (maybe it was hotter inside) (measured with MBM5 using DFI Expert Settings)

This is on water...so I guess the CPU is pretty much a dud but oh well..

Core 0 sucks, Core 1 I think could easily clock past 3ghz on this much power...

Anyways am I safe to run the 1.568 setting, or should I clock it back down to 2700 mhz?

I was running my old XP at 1.85V for the past few years on air but not sure if these new CPUs are so tuff...I doubt they are...

I definitely wouldn't say you got a dud. Dual 2.8 ghz stable is sweet. LOADS of people top out way below that, water or not.

You just have it in your head that every opteron hits 3 ghz because the very few people that manage to hit that high tend to say a lot about it. Theres plenty of other people topping out at 2.4 and 2.5 who don't say a thing.

id keep it at 2700 because even that speed is nothing to sneeze at. the voltage differential for 100mhz just isnt worth it at all. your chip will last longer and like arman01 said you'll have less problems. plus less heat.

yea but how much longer are we talking? Will it only last 15 years instead of 20? Isn't it mostly the heat that kills the CPU?

Just curious because I would really like to have 2800 mhz but if over 1.5v is going to kill it that much faster...

The CPU is running cooler than the NB lol...

My first 170 wouldnt do over 2520.

My second has problems going over 2700.
Consider yourself lucky you are gettting a 1GHZ OC out of your CPU.

ok I'm lucky then, but, should I leave it 1GH over? Have alot of CPU's been dying because of voltages under 1.6V?

I'm still not convinced either way 1.568 V is going to hurt the CPU or it should be fine? I know 1.4 volts is less and easier on the CPU, but then again so is stock voltage so why not drop back to that? I'll bet I can do 2500-2600 on stock voltages, but then what is the point in using water?

high temps are bad, but more voltage is worse. "mean time to failure" tests show that there is a linear relationship between temperature and rate of failure. on the other hand there is an exponetial relationship between rate of failure and increased voltage. this being said, if you don't plan on keeping your processor for more than 3 years you should be okay, but ymmv.
