I have an Opteron 165 overclocked to about 2.46ghz and the chip is running at 46C at 50% load (provided by a prime95 stress test). I think this is a little hot, considering the overclock, and the load. I have 3 fans very close to the CPU. A 120mm case fan, blowing out, a 120mm fan blowing onto the Thermalright XP-120 heatsink, and a 120mm PSU fan sucking air out of the case, through the PSU and out of the back of the case. I'm wondering if rearanging the fans will yeild a cooler overclock. What do you guys think? I can provided pics of needed.

PS: only one instance of prime95 will run so I can't push the CPU to a full 100% load.

ok to get 2 instances of prime running go into your prime 95 directory where it saved the program and make another folder and a copy of the prime95 program, put that copy into the other folder and create a shortcut for it to the desktop, then you can open both up, you have to go into advanced and set the affinity of each prime instance, one to core 0 and 1 to core 1 then you can run both test simulatmiously. but to your originaal question it doesn't seem all that warm for a dual core.

Thanks for that Prime recomendation!

And I had the chip running at 38C before the overclock so I'm kinda weary. I don't want to kill my chip.

don't worry about killing your chip, just go slow and see how high you get without extra voltage, my first 165 hit about 50c load 2.8 under prime, it was an early production chip and this one I've got now is much hotter than it but It cooled down by 15c when I lifted the lid, now it doesn't go over 40c load at 2.8. Most of these things have a horrible interface material it seems as my chip had good contact but some rock hard thermal compound
