So I was fooling around with an old BFG 6600GT agp, and I broke off an odd little box thing. I'd do the research and find out what it was, but it seems moot. Out of curiosity, I popped it into a computer and it worked perfectly. as I type it is completing a 48 hour stability test with a program that I cannot quite remember the name of, and no errors. Anyone want to take a guess what this apparently unimportant box is? it was located beside one of the clips for the cooler on the underside of the card :p

Question, in this image... where is it.

Probably a cap. I wouldn't worry about it, especially since you say the card still seems to run like normal.

I don't know what it is, but I broke one off of an old Radeon 7000 AGP card it has worked just fine for the last 6 months or so.....

At least it looks like the same thing:)

It looks like you may have lopped off a crystal resistor. most of the time if you just lob one off it will probably create less efficiency in the card. Although, theres also a possibility it could cause a short. Seems like you got lucky and it wasn't a crucial circuit that you may have disrupted. It will probably degrade over time and eventually break but i dont think the card will last that long. ;)

just fyi, "lop" not "lob". To lob something is to throw or toss an object in a sort of circular path. To lop is to cut or chop a piece off something.

Thanks mate. I guess i get that for living around a bunch of people who say their phrases wrong all the time. I guess it kinda just rubs off. Haha, pretty ironic since i give them crap about saying things like that wrong all the time. Lets keep this quiet. ;)

Also, i thought a lob, was well a lob. Kinda like in football. Kind of a high hanging throw into the air.

Yeah, it wont last too long, I'm slowly overclocking until it dies, taking incremental benchmarks. lol artifacts
