going to do a new build and wanted [H] opinion on whether there is anything that you would change. not a hard core gamer, but I do plan on playing some games. I need it to do everything, from photoshop to spreadsheet to video encoding to watching porn

Corsair Graphite Series 600TM Mid-Tower Case
MSI P67A-GD80 (B3) P67 ATX
Intel Core i7 2600K
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B Vengeance Blue 8GB
Coolit Systems Eco CPU Water Cooling System
Antec High Current Gamer 620W 48A Plus Bronze Power Supply
Corsair Force Series 120GB SSD ( X 2. planning on RAID0)
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II OC

Unless you really want it, there's no point in getting the i7-2600k IMO based on the needs you listed. i5-2500k would save you $100. Have you checked out the Corsair 400R case also?

RAID0 on the SSDs seems like overkill. Most people seem to recommend the Intel or Crucial right now if you're going the SSD route.

You could take the money you save by getting a single SSD, cheaper CPU and a cheaper case and get a faster video card if you wanted to.

For all around use, I think its pretty solid.

I agree that the i5 could save you $100 cause there arent a whole lot of benchmarks where the i7 really beat the i5 enough to justify its $100 price premium.

Id want a faster video card but if youre not a hardcore gamer, the 560 should work.

Im strictly a gamer so Id get the i5 and a GTX570 instead of the i7 and GTX560 but that still might be a good option for you. The i5 is more than capable of handling anything you throw at it and the GTX570 would let you max out the settings on any game out right now at 1920x1080. If you like your eye candy, this might be a worthwhile trade off.

For a do-everything system, I believe that you have your priorities in the wrong areas....

Processor: What will you be doing that would justify Hyper Threading (IMO, the only reason to buy the i7-2600K over the i5-2500K)?

CPU Cooler: CoolIT ECO? Many reviews pointed toward the Corsair H50 as the better water cooler... but do you really need either one? The $30 Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus will give you excellent cooling performance for considerably less.

Motherboard: What features pointed you toward that board? (Better question: Which features do you need?)

SSDs: First off, you need to look at the Intel 510 or Crucial m4. Second, you lose the ability to use TRIM on the SSDs in RAID mode. Third, what do you plan on loading onto the SSDs?

HDD: The Samsung HD103SJ performs just as well as the Caviar Black for less money.

Video Card: What resolution? Which games? What level of visual quality?

(And yes, it would help us if you answered the sticky questions.)
