Hello,
This is my first post on Hard Forum but I come here almost every day. I am looking for some advice, opinions about Windows Home Server 2011 for file sharing, backing up other Win 7 PC and media streaming.

Here is my situation; I am currently using an old PC to stream my movies.
Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 1.8Ghz
Soltek K8AN2E-GR

2 GB DDR

It is running Windows 7 Pro 32bit (but is 64bit capable) and I’m using Tversity to stream directly to my TV. I’m mostly streaming 1080p mkv... I do not think that I am transcoding since my CPU is not powerful enough to do it and for example, my TV can read my mkv file from a USB key without any problems.

I am looking to migrate to WHS because my drives are becoming full and the drive pooling option (DrivePool / Driver Bender) looks very interesting. Looking at the specs on Microsoft page, I seem to meet the requirements.

I would like to know if I would be able to run WHS 2011 with tversity (or other streaming programs) and still stream my movie fine.

What are your experience with WHS and similar situation?

I recently migrated someone from WHSv1 to 2011. After a little reading, I decided to try Stablebit before Drivebender & have not regretted the choice. Drivepool works very well. WHS2011 is a hell of a lot faster than v1, too.

I recently upgraded from WHS to WHS 2011 and am very happy. I use drive bender and have not had any problems. I do suggest you go for 8G of ram (but no more as the OS is limited to 8).

I cant speak to your software questions as I don't use what you are asking about.

if you want a free option. I went from whsv1 to whs2011 and i am currently using liquesce for drive pool. It work great where I can keep the data i want on each harddrive alone, and when i add new data, i add it direct to the HDD and not to the pool. The pool is usually updated with the new Data. Obviously you can let the program add data to the harddrive without looking at it, but i prefer to have more direct control of my data.

The con is that i can't run NFS yet. I am looking into some 3rd party sources for NFS.
