hi, my bro is a little bit retarded and lazy to look this stuff up. but i was wondering if there is an operating system strickly for htpcs, ive been doing some research for about 2 hours now, and have come across some storys and stuff about these operating systems. was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.
 
Techincally, even a TiVo runs an OS underneath the PVR app (TiVo uses linux).

What you really need is a good frontend app, an app like MCE, Xlobby, Meedio, etc is suppose to make it so that you don't have to see the OS layer and make it feel more a "consumer electronic device."

So under linux you have Myth, on XP the easy thing could be to use MCE but it's very much an all in one app and hence is a bit limiting in what you can do. Under XP you can also use Meedio or Xlobby which are both very flexible.
 
thank you VERY much, this is EXTREMELY helpful, i just got my new htpc, and the software ati gives u is crap, windows xp mce integrated is crap, even beyond tv is crap (imo).
