alright ive been combining two computers, a dell with windows ME and a gateway that originally had win98 and now has a not working version of xp...i booted up the gatewway after putting all the dell ram and sound cards and networking cards in...and it came up with "operating system not found"...i have put the windows xp reinstallion cd in and it isnt working...so any help would be appreciated. thanks
cory

ps i also put the hard drive into the gateway, so the dell is now bare besides the motherboard which i am not too sure what to do with...and the gateway will still not boot up!

Try going into the bios and switching the boot squence on the hard drives. Check if by temporalily unplugging the new harddrive allows the computer to boot. Most likely, it is looking for the OS on the wrong drive. If you cannot properly change the boot order, a good program is Smart Boot Manager, which can be booted off from a floppy.

boot to the repair console and do a fixboot... your master boot record might need to be updated due to your new configuration.
