Opera Kills Off Opera Max

For those of you still using Opera Max, the company has decided to suddenly discontinue the app. Not to be confused with Opera VPN, which is still available, the free VPN service helped users lower their data usage by compressing data before being served to the device. The last update was July 19th with none to follow and already delisted from the Google Play Store for most folks.

The product had a substantially different value proposition than our browser products, and represented a different focus for Opera,"the company writes in its announcement." We, therefore, focus on our browsers and other upcoming services."
 
Translation: This cost significantly more money to operate than it took in.

I'm not surprised they're pulling this, I don't see how they could have ever made it into a profitable product and Opera isn't exactly Apple or Microsoft profitability-wise.
