Time ago i asked about VPN solutions, cosidering my position and being cost effective i decided to implement the following:

OpenVPN server on:
XP2000+
256MB
40GB
+ Firewall Software

For Branches with 2 or more PCs im going to buy a Linksys VPN Router.

For Branches/Users with 1 PC im going to use OpenVPN client.

I just have some doubts about this..

For Server i need a static IP?

any suggestion over this?

+ Also i was thinking of a PIX506E instead of PC OpenVPN server, but i dunno if OpenVPN clients will work with it?

any help?

OpenVPN shouldn't be thought of as a client but more over as a service, Meaning that you can't mix and match the components. OpenVPN uses SSL (OpenSSL libs)to create an encryped secure tunnel through its virtal Network Device.

So in short No OpenVPN just works with its self to my knowledge.

The server need to have some sort of constant location pointer. Be it a static IP address or DNS name either will do (in the case of OpenVPN) you can get a free third level Dns name with dynamic DNS support, however you'll most likely want to get a second level name with dynamic support and that might cost (I think zonedite.com will do it for ree or little)
