Building a replacement server, opensolaris is dead, openindiana is now on a usb stick, long live the king

But I pm'ed sub.mesa a few days ago, maybe time to try out freebsd and zfs

Any thoughts?

I've burned ZFS Guru 0.1.7 Preview to a disc and it's now running livecd on our newest server

How I install to a USB stick?

There's no USB binary image for download with version 0.1.7-preview yet. But you can perform a 'zfs-on-root' installation:
1) format one or more disks with GPT
2) create a pool (single disk or RAID-Z or RAID-Z2 etc)
3) go to Pools->Booting page and follow instructions
4) please reboot immediately after the procedure is complete; perform no more GUI actions.
5) boot from one of the GPT formatted disks; make sure your BIOS has proper boot sequence

That will work, but it will cause a bit more write cycles to your USB stick. The special binary USB/CF distribution will minimize those writes. Though you can create your own USB stick soon via the web-GUI; in 0.1.7-preview3 i think. For now, using the ZFS-on-root install is the most advanced installation, and saves you 0.5GB of RAM usage too.

Cheers.
