Apologies in advance if this thread has been done to death, I haven' been around for some time. I know it's not hardware, but it's likely gonna have a dramatic effect on hardware going forward, not the least of which is with the next gen of consoles (PS4 = OpenGL, XB1 = DirectX). But if the mods feel like this thread should be moved, please go ahead.
Moving along...I'm just wondering which is better, both in the PC realm and/or the console realm going forward. Is one more likely to be more prominent in the future than the other?
According to this video ( http://www.gamespot.com/call-of-duty...o-far-6408699/ ), they seem to imply that the directX will have the advantage as far as consoles go. Here's the exact quote:
"Without specific numbers it's hard to judge which system is technically capable of producing better graphics, but Microsoft has an edge thanks to DirectX, the software library found in past xbox consoles and most notably the Windows operating system. The ps4 system will utilize OpenGL and likely support the continuation of Sony's playstation graphics library. One isn't necessarily better than the other, but PC developers could find it easier to port games to the XB1 vs the PS4."
So, is that true? If it were up to you, which would you use if you were developing PC architecture or a console? Anxious to read your thoughts, thanks.
