opengl question

ok im confused as to what opengl is and what it does and how to use it. HIS 4850

just wondering does it make gaming better? is it auto enabled? is it for programmers only?

OpenGL is included in and updated in the drivers for both ATi and nVidia drivers. OpenGL competes with Microsoft's DirectX; some games use OpenGL, most games use DirectX, some use both. For us end-users, OpenGL is not something you normally need to do or know anything about.
