Well here goes. I was in search for a vanilla 6800 with 256MB. Somehow I cam upon this. It's a PCI-E card that seems to have an algorithm called Open EXR enabled on it or something.

#1 I have never heard of this until now.

#2 He posted a couple of screenshots of Farcry and they look amazingly improved.

Is this some type of hoax or is this something that has completely eluded me in the graphics card world. Clarification, comments or information would be greatly appreciated.

Not a hoax, it's a 6800 exclusive feature, 16-bit floating point HDR.

You can see some pics and movies of it in action on my nvnews thread here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=39464

It currently works in FarCry, however with the 6800nu, don't expect to play at more than 800x600 with it enabled due to the performance hit.

edit: LOL that guy on eBay stole my FarCry screenshots!

Thanks to everyone who cleared that up. Amazingly I read that review before now and I guess it didn't stick in my mind. Feeling kinda stupid knowing that I have a Geforce 6 series card. I guess I was mixed up between PS 3.0 and whatever I thought the article was about (the world may never know). Are there any other games that will be supporting OpenEXR?

It looks like the upcoming Painkiller: Battle Out Of Hell might, and I've seen shots of what appears to be HDR on Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, which may come in the form of a SM3.0/OpenEXR patch.
