PSU has not been starting up lately (runs fine once it goes). Today after reapplying AS5 to the bridge...it wouldn't start at all. So, I have my rig running on a wing and a prayer right now with a 350W PSU w/o no extra power to the 7800 GTX.

Early next year I will be upgrading to a quad + single 8800GTX (9800?!?) video card. The CPU will be a Q6700 and I will be only running 1 HDD, 1 optical drive...and 2-3 120 mil fans (I have a tsunami dream case).

Estimates show <450W with a Q6700 (OC'd to 3GHz) and a 8800 GTX going full tilt. While I was thinking the 620 Corsair would be enough...it doesn't feel right. So would the PCP&C 750 be a better choice? The thing I enjoyed most about my Antec neo was the modular cables and not sure if i'm willing to give that up. I also like the silence of the two. What about 8-Pin PCI-E? What about single high powered 12V rails? I just feel that there is too many variables running around and with the pressure of getting my current rig at least to 100%...I feel rushed.

Any sanity advice?
 
I love single rails. Less to worry about.

The Corsair will be plenty for a quad and a single card, but if you want SLI I would not stay with it.

Fans and harddrives (until you get in to like, 5+ HDDs) don't really figure in to load. Fans tend to be 2 watts to start 1/2 watt to maintain, HDDs are 10-15 each while seeking, 5 or less sitting idle.

I have a feeling that G92 will use at least one 8 pin PCIe power connector, but you can get 6-to-8 pin adapters that will work fine, so I wouldn't worry about it. 6 wires will take 250 watts (the max draw allowed by an 8 pin connector) just as well as 8, really, it's not like they're very thin.

If you want a lot of headroom the Silencer 750 Quad is a great deal at $170 direct from PC Power and Cooling right now. If you might only add a couple of haddrives to the rig you planned over time, the Corsair 620HX will be fine.
 
I can't hear my Silencer, so I guess it's well-named, and I don't think you'd have a /much/ bigger load than what I do at the moment. 60-80 watts more, or there-about. I see around 360-370 at the wall under load. Add another core for the Quad and subtract a few watts for the Ultra instead of the GTX, and you're probably at 400-440 at the wall. Possibly more though, as I know Dan_D's machine (granted, with another GTX and watercooling) pulls over 600.
 
Well screw me..it looks like all the 8 pin PCIe cable does is give you two more grounds (i.e. less drop along the way).
 
I bought the PCP&C...even forked out the extra $10 for black. The whole single rail makes SO much more sense to me. I wouldn't be suprised if I took it apart they started using the same style polyphase converter as your motherboard uses for the PSU. Wonder if the [H] could give that PSU a whirl...
