I hope this isnt too much of a n00b question, but here goes....

Is it normal to return work units that are worth less than 50 points? I mean, it seemed like I was getting more points per work unit a week ago compared to now. I just want to make sure nothings wrong with my clients!

Also, is there a way to find a lit of finished work units and the points awarded for them? I looked in FAHlog.txt and didnt see anything relating to points.

Thanks for any help. :)

if you are doing WUs without time limits , or if you finished a WU early that amout of points sounds about right. When you picked what kind of work units Folding @home was going to do, you can pick (timeless ) 1) timeless 2) no-pref 3) no

if you picked "no-pref" you will get those small units from time to time.

post your FAH log for that WU so I can see if there was an error-

I can't tell for sure, but going by the point value alone, that sounds like a small Gromacs core WU. I've chewed through many of those things over time. I don't think you are having any problems, it's just a smaller WU.

P530 and P543 are 44 Pointers...

edit: for crappy grammer

yup, I've gotten some 44 pointers recently.... only takes about 10 hr to fold them on a P4 2.66....

Keep on Folding!!

Those 44 pointers are nice, but I've been enjoying those 77 point collagen units lately... I got a whole bunch of them this week and my A64 sliced through them.

right now, i believe it's set to 'no preference'. On a decent speed machine (Ath 1.4 and P4 3.0) with a broadband connection, is it typical to set it to not grab timeless work units? or does it really even matter?

Also, I dont see anything funky in the FAHlog .... so I'm just gonna keep on folding and see where I get!

With those speeds, you should easily be able to just grab the normal units and go to town. The timeless units are for those old chips like the P3's, P2's etc. that would never even come close to get units in on time. However, depending on the amount of memory (512mb or greater) on the P4 3.0, you could move up to the big units and start getting the 600 pointers that are all the rage here lately.

Im getting back to back 600 pointers, plus marathon WoW sessions = some choppy output :)

Anyone else remember those .69 pointers from several years back? Good times.

I really like the 20 point Tinkers that come out every once in a while. On an AthlonXP 2400+ it chews through frames in about 25-30 seconds.

Damn, I really need to get around to phantom overclocking my friend's system to output a bit more. I know it will run 2.3 Ghz stable since the mobo and CPU are my old ones. I guess I can. He's already told me I can do just about anything I want with his system since he trusts me.

0.69 pointers??

I've only been folding since Oct 2003 or so.... lowest I've gotten have been 15 and 18 pointers.... back in April/May of 2004.....

Keep on Folding!!

I am guesin he is talkin about 69 point units.

I seem to remember that those 69 pointers ran really fast and were good for point output.

I don't know if he means .69 or 69 since we've been through a lot of oddly scored WU's through the years. I wish we could search the forum back to the beginning of folding to get a good feel for how things have changed. I wouldn't be surprised if we had .69 pointers back in the day.

0.69 is correct.
If you got a G@H protien then it was 5 hours folding time for only 0.7 points at 2 ghz. 0.07 PpHpG.
That was 10 times slower than F@H protiens at that time. 0.7 PphpG adverage on an AMD boxen.
Then Stanford introduced Gromac cores and the speed increased to 1.4 Points per Hour per Ghz.
Now that Stanford's rebenched them all.
Gromacs fold around 2 PpHpG.
Big packet around 3.6 PpHpG.
And the fastest I've seen one of my Opterons fold is 6.9 PpHpG.

Luck........ :D

heh, I got some worth 32 points each back in December. OCed 2500+ sliced through them so fast I barely noticed them. When I saw them on my stats, I thought I was reterning EARLY_UNIT_ENDs :p
