I would hardly call that a solution. It's both of limited use and ugly. And the flicker is still there, only less visible.
I thought I was sensitive to it but it's just brightness that gets to me I have a BenQ that is flicker free but it doesn't help unless I'm away from the harsh lights at work for a week or so.
It's going to be highly dependent on PWM frequency. My VG278HE has a PWM frequency of 432Hz at a screen refresh of 144Hz, and I don't notice any flicker and I suffer no ill side-effects. At 60Hz refresh, though, it has a PWM frequency of only 120Hz, which has very noticeable flicker and causes eye stress in me. My thought is that the PWM frequency should be at least 3 times the refresh rate to be acceptable.

There is no reason for me to run it at anything but 144Hz for anything I do on my computer; productivity, gaming, entertainment or otherwise. My point was that high contrast would most likely only help in situations where the PWM frequency was very low.try the high contrast theme.. does it work to stop eye stress?

I never would have thought I was sensitive to PWM as I've been using crappy computers and most certainly crappy monitors since I was like, 12, but when I picked up an ASUS PB278Q 27" PLS, I had to return it because the use of PWM began hurting my eyes and giving me headaches within 20min of use. And no, nothing I did fixed it. Some monitors use PWM after a certain level, usually 30% brightness.
It broke my heart because I was in love with that panel's design and construction. I ordered an ASUS PB278QR which uses no PWM and an AH-IPS panel, though, so I'm going to check it out![]()
Monitors have brightness settings for a reason. If a monitor is too bright, turn the brightness down.
Yeah... sorry, but nothing is going to make me happy with PWM dimming.
PWM monitor = has to be at 100% brightness for me to use it.
The screen coating and the power of the LED backlights has a lot to do with it let alone the PWM I'm going to box up my BENQ 24" when my 24" ASUS (I would of got the 144hz one but people complain it's too bright ) gets here use a 21.5 ASUS for general use never going BENQ again eyes seem to take it too much light with them even if it's calibrated and state it's flicker free.
if I was affected by PWM I would just buy monitor without it
using high-contrast setting or using brightness control in gpu control panel and other methods people use are half baked solutions and in their essence just ridiculous![]()
I see no good reason why they wouldn't let you to bring your own monitor from home to office if you claimed that you have issues with eyeaches and headaches that impair your performance and this special monitor solves them. Boss would have to be an idiot to force you to use crappy standard monitor if you brought your own monitor from home and he/she wouldn't spend a penny on you.
It is I believe only issue of people not wanting to spend those few extra bucks and are more willing to suffer. Which is kinda strange when you compare typical income in USA, UK and other more developed countries to silly prices of monitors that even people with minimal wage in post-communist countries like Poland can easily afford ... so its a matter of idiocy and being too much Scrooge when it comes to own wellbeing than anything else.
Eye health should be imho top priority and few bucks or resistance in office to use non-standard equipment should be no reason to use PWM monitor if it obviously is causing eye fatigue....

I am not interrested cause high contrast setting with white text on black background sounds very very tiring to eyes. I rather like it other way around, and both my monitors flicker![]()

Some people try bringing info to the thread or just isn't want dopple wants to hear.
some users in an office I used to work in had issues with flicker on the LCDs. All we had to do was tell management it was an OSHA issue that the office equipment was causing headaches to get them replaced for the users that noticed it.
I don't know if that's an option for you, but if your management won't approve replacing a piece of equipment that costs less than $300, I think the only way to avoid it would be to have brightness at 100%, or maybe at 0%?
You could also look into one of those privacy screen overlays. It really kills viewing angles, but it might help reduce the effect.
